Ken Edgar: The Honeybee Farm at White Heron Retreat
Hey, how’s it going? Thanks for visiting my site. Anything and everything you want to know about beekeeping, I am your guy. I usually start off by telling people I was tricked into beekeeping about 20 years ago. When asked to take the class, I thought, “You must be crazy, we are going to get stung to death!” Somehow I agreed, and now I am asking you to join me.
From Military Service to Master Beekeeper
Here’s a little background before we get started…
I was born in a small town in Indiana and moved to Wilmington, North Carolina, at the age of ten. After high school, I served on active duty in the United States Army until retirement in my late thirties.
As a veteran, I was a full-time instructor at Cape Fear Community College and established Ken’s Tree Company, Inc. During this time, I discovered beekeeping as a hobby. I found it deeply rewarding and a welcome source of relaxation in my busy life.
Master Beekeeper & Educator
As my knowledge for beekeeping grew, I earned my Master Beekeeper Certification in North Carolina. Sharing this knowledge became a passion, and I volunteered at:

- The North Carolina State Zoo, Honey Bee Exhibit
- Local schools with children and scouts
- Churches with adults and senior citizens
- Community events through the Tri-County Region
I love teaching beekeeping to enthusiasts of all levels hoping to inspire the next generation of beekeepers and provide information for those who are simply curious to learn more.
Leadership & Growth in Beekeeping
I served as the President of the Brunswick County Beekeepers Association for 3 years. During that time, I expanded my bee yards into New Hanover and Brunswick Counties, with my 2 newest locations serving Columbus County.

From Trees to Bees: Journey to Full-Time Beekeeping
After 20 years of experience, I sold my tree company and transitioned to beekeeping full-time, turning my passion into a full-time career. You might recognize my 100% pure, raw, and unadulterated wildflower honey, previously sold under the name The Sweet Life Honeybee Farm.
